A Brand New Web Site for CLRA!
This web site was built with the newest software from Segue Systems. This new software revolutionizes the creation, and more importantly, the maintenance, of a web site's content. Segue's new product allows one to quickly add, modify, or delete:
- pages
- links
- pictures (automatically sized for display areas, and zoom-able!)
- forms
- users
- groups
and, to some extent, even allows one to modify a site's layout (with automated features such as backgrounds that change every day of the week, pictures that change every time someone new comes to the site, a different song every minute of the hour, a different quotation for each day of the year, etc.). Having a web site that has a constant, new look, has never been easier. So easy, in fact, that anyone capable of filling out a form can maintain a Segue Site. No programming skills required!!!
The Web is the Place for Pictures
Since the web is a really great place to display pictures, and since getting pictures to a web site has historically been a royal pain, Segue decided to devise the simplest way possible to get pictures displayed on the web. The process is as simple as selecting the desired picture off your computer (using the standard Microsoft 'Browse' button) for insertion into a particular page on your web site. The transfer is automatic. The page modification is automatic. Processing the picture to the proper size is automatic.And once there, the picture can be resized for close-up viewing just by clicking on it! How can it get any better than this?
Forms a Hassle No More!
Who do you know that is an expert at getting a form on the web to work? Forms are still generated today using CGI, but there are very few non-programmers that know (or care to know) how to make it work. With Segue's user-customizable forms, anyone can put a form on a web site, and get data back from it. Data entered into a Segue Form automatically gets inserted into a downloadable file (which opens up in Microsoft Excel for all those computers with access to Excel). In addition, the site owner can specify an email address to receive the form's data every time it is submitted.
Users and Groups? What's All That About?
Well, imagine being able to give someone the authority to modify a single page on your web site... or a bunch of pages. Or maybe you'd like to give some priviledged someone the right to view a particular page, while hiding that page from everyone else. With a Segue Site, this is very do-able! On this site, under the 'Pictures' link, are numerous sub-links where individuals have been given the right to upload pictures to this web site. Check them out! It's now possible to spread the maintenance of a web site over a large group of people, and know who is responsible for each page's content. Now, that's cool!
